This fascinating essay offers fresh insight on the disastrous marriage of Edward Bulwer Lytton and Rosina Wheeler, daughter of Anna Wheeler (author of Appeal of One Half of the Human Race, Women, Against the Pretensions of the Other Half, Men). It was only when author David Lytton Cobbold moved into Knebworth House in the early 1970s that Rosina's picture was once again hung alongside those of her descendants, putting aside a century and a half of bitterness.
